Walking and talking therapy
We offer walk and talk therapy, swopping indoor therapy sessions for a walk and a talk in the natural environment. It’s therapy, but a more relaxed and natural alternative — one that combines the benefits of traditional counselling with the calming effects of being outdoors.
What is walk and talk therapy?
Walk and talk therapy takes place outside, in natural surroundings, rather than in a counselling room. You and your therapist walk side by side, often in a local park or quiet space, while having your session. The pace and route can be adapted to suit your comfort and physical ability. We offer walk and talk therapy sessions in Harrogate, the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Park.
Why choose walk and talk therapy?
Being outdoors can help you feel more at ease. For some, walking side by side, instead of face to face, makes opening up easier. The natural rhythm of walking can help people feel grounded, especially when talking about difficult topics.
Many people find that moving their body while talking helps them think more clearly. Research shows that being in nature can reduce stress, boost mood, and support mental clarity. Walk and talk therapy combines these benefits with professional support to help you work through personal challenges.
Who is it for?
Walk and talk therapy can be helpful for anyone who feels comfortable walking and wants a different kind of counselling experience. It might appeal especially to people who feel restless in traditional therapy settings, or who find movement and fresh air help them feel calmer.
How do I get started?
Krysallis therapists will work with you to decide whether walk and talk therapy is right for you. If so, they’ll help you plan sessions that feel comfortable, private, and suited to your needs. We can decide on a location which works for you.
You don’t need to be super fit or an experienced walker. Just be open to trying something a little different.
Take the first step
Sometimes, the simple act of walking can help shift things, both physically and emotionally. If you’re curious, get in touch to see how we might support you. If you’re already attending therapy in a room, we could also combine this with sessions walking and talking in-between.
