Children & Young People’s Counselling

Children & Young People’s Counselling

Counselling and therapy for children and young people

We offer counselling for young adults and a children’s therapy service here in Harrogate. It’s a positive, professional place to get help.

Our counsellors are professionally trained, qualified and registered with the relevant membership bodies. They help with problems that affect how young people feel and act, how they relate to friends and family, and even their ability to learn.

Counselling or therapy?

Child counselling is where all ages can talk through, and work out, how to address their problems. It can help with coping, communicating and learning. It also builds self-esteem and develops healthy and helpful ways of thinking and behaving.

Our child therapy services can help with a range of issues including problems around family and school, from bullying and mental and physical ill health. Therapy can also help with common feelings like sadness or anger, and it can help children and young people navigate periods of grief or stress and worry.

Kids and teens with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-harming behaviours, ADHD, OCD and trauma-related disorders can also find therapy a source of great support.

Sarah has worked separately with both of my children on a number of issues – both appear to have greatly benefitted from these sessions and have felt listened to and supported.”

When working with children and young people, counsellors will change their approach according to the child’s age. Younger children may benefit from having the whole family there, drawing, playing and talking. With older children and teens, counsellors can share activities and ideas that help to develop the skills needed to solve problems and talk through feelings.

Supporting your child through therapy is very helpful. From taking them to appointments to taking part in sessions. You can also make a note of your concerns and times when your child has struggled with behaviours or feelings to share with the therapist. It will help your child’s therapist fully understand your child’s situation.

You can always ask the therapist to explain what’s going to happen, how they work, and about their qualifications and experience. It’s a good way to check that the therapist is a good fit. Our therapists can support children with, or without, a diagnosed mental health condition, anyone can benefit from counselling.

Contact us and we’ll put you in touch with one of our therapists, to arrange your first session. We’ll match you to the person who best meets your needs and preferences. Alternatively you can have a free, brief chat with a therapist before booking.
