Counselling
People decide to talk to a counsellor because they want something to change. There are many ways of effecting change but the approach of counselling is to assist clients' search for self-understanding through guided exploration of feelings, thoughts, beliefs and values. In this way, the person is encouraged to develop a fuller and more accurate sense of their life as it has been and is currently lived. What needs to change and how that might be accomplished can then emerge. This delicate process requires commitment from both client and therapist to the gradual building of understanding between them, so that an open, trusting relationship is established within which the client feels safe and accepted. The space in which this happens is also important, and we have designed and furnished our consulting rooms with the thought in mind that confidential communication is helped if the environment is comfortable, quiet and welcoming.
